BAFANA Bafana vice-captain Steven Pienaar could soon have Didier Drogba and Michael Essien as his team-mates.

This after Pienaar's club Everton accepted an offer from Chelsea for the midfielder.

Everton manager David Moyes, who has repeatedly pleaded with Pienaar to sign a new deal offered by the club, revealed that Chelsea have put in a solid £3million (R32,7million) bid.

The Toffees have rejected a £2million bid from Tottenham Hotspur, the team Bongani "Model C" Khumalo joined recently.

Pienaar's contract with Everton expires at the end of the season but he has decided to move on in search of greener pastures. His club had offered him a new deal that Pienaar did not accept.

Moyes said he decided not to field Pienaar in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool because the popular South African was not in the right frame of mind.

He added that Pienaar, who could not be reached for comment, was still to agree personal teams with the reigning English Premiership champions.

"Steven has not agreed terms with Chelsea," Moyes told Chelsea's website.

"We've given his representatives a chance to talk to Chelsea but they've not got permission to talk to Tottenham because they've not offered the same money.

"If Tottenham offer the same money that may change or maybe he will agree terms with Chelsea."

Pienaar's agent Rob Moore was also not available.

Pienaar joined Everton from Germany's Borussia Dortmund in 2007, initially on loan, before making the move permanent a year later for a fee just over £2million.

He started his professional soccer career at Ajax Cape Town.

Subsequent to that, Pienaar relocated to Holland where he played for Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, helping them win many titles.

He has made 20 league appearances this season, scoring one goal in the game against Manchester United in September.
