Swallows give Chabangu another chance

WAYWARD forward Mpho Lerato Chabangu looks set to return to big- time soccer after apologising to Moroka Swallows coach Gordon Igesund for not showing up for trials last Tuesday.

Igesund had invited the striker from Thembisa, Ekurhuleni, over for trials.

Chabangu's no-show infuriated Igesund, who told Sowetan last week that "he had given up on helping the wayward forward".

Chabangu regrets failing to pitch-up for the trials last week. He told Sowetan yesterday that family problems were the main reason for his failure to honour the trials.

Chabangu eventually met Igesund during a training session in Germiston last week to give his side of the story.

"I apologised to Igesund for not showing up. This man is giving me an opportunity to revive my career. It is an offer that I cannot allow to slip away," said Chabangu.

"I am happy that Igesund has agreed to continue with our discussions after the Christmas break, and I'm looking forward to training with Swallows," he said.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker has been inactive for almost two years after picking up an injury.

Igesund confirmed that Chabangu met with him last Thursday after a training session to apologise.

Swallows are in Cape Town for the clash against Vasco da Gama tonight at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, another former Sundowns striker, Manqoba "Shakes" Ngwenya, is heading for Witbank where he will have trials with Mpumalanga Black Aces next month.
