Bucs, Chiefs fined

SOUTH African soccer giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, were on Monday slapped with hefty fines by the disciplinary committee for the transgression of some rules and regulations of the Premier Soccer League.

Chiefs, along with their coach Vladimir "VV" Vermezovic, were fined R50000 which was wholly suspended for 12 months after being found guilty on charges of unruly behaviour and bringing the league into disrepute.

Chiefs also have to issue a written apology to both the SABC and SuperSport as well as the PSL within seven days.

This follows an incident on December 2 2010 in which Vermezovic failed to attend an obligatory interview for SABC Sports Soccer 411 program, thus contravening media manual section "A", which is incorporated in the compliance manual and as agreed in the activation meeting of Friday November 26 2010 that two head coaches would attend SABC program 411 and two players would attend the SuperSport program.

Pirates were fined R30000 which was also wholly suspended for 12 months after being found guilty of delaying the kickoff and failure to obey match officials' directive for their goalkeeper to change his socks to comply with the phone and pre-match meeting of an official league match.

The incident occurred in a match that Pirates hosted against Bloemfontein Celtic on December 12, 2010 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Pirates caused the delay of the official kickoff in that the goalkeeper failed to change to an alternative colour of socks when so ordered by the match officials and in spite of having agreed to dress the goalkeeper in green socks, instead he wore white socks over green socks.

In the same match as in above contravention in the second half, the goalkeeper failed to wear an appropriate colour of socks in that he was wearing black socks with a white trim.

National First Division inland stream log leaders Jomo Cosmos were fined R30000 after being found guilty of failing to wear properly marked kit.

Cosmos were ordered to pay R5000 immediately while the rest, R25000 was suspended for 12 months.

The incident occurred in their game against United FC at De Beers Stadium in Kimberley on December 4. The Cosmos reserve goalkeeper on the day wore a jersey which did not comply with the rules.

The sittings' costs will be shared by the three clubs.

The cases against Black Leopards, who were to face charges of failure to wear a properly marked kit and that of United FC who allegedly fielded a defaulter in their game against Cosmos, were postponed. Leopards will appear on January 12, 2011 while United FC's case was adjourned indefinitely.
