Since every financial decision we make requires wisdom, receiving the new Renault Logan for evaluation recently was an eye opener.
My new neighbour (the nicer one) asked what car it was. Being a petrolhead, he was obviously not impressed.
We started chatting about the car. He seems not affected by the financial crisis as my arguments didn't appear to make any impression.
I pointed it out to him that the Logan was an entry level car and was reasonably priced.
He never thought a petrol head like me would defend a car like the Logan.
With the global credit crunch and its far-reaching fallout continuing to impact significantly on spending power, motoring consumers are on the lookout for genuine value.
I had defended the Logan for that and other reasons. Apart from the pricing, the Logan offers a good quality package.
The ride was smooth and comfortable. My fear for small uncomfortable cars is beyond me.
Upon entering the Logan, nothing suggests that it is an entry-level car priced at less than R100000.
The cabin space is enormous, the kind of space you find in the C-segment vehicles. Boot space is one of the best attributes of the Logan.
A colleague who recently purchased one sings its praises. He had taken it down to the Cape and was happy.
The Logan is a perfect car for this trying times when we need to spend for a good reason.
It is available in a punchy four-cylinder 1,6litre engine. Power peaks at 64kW and maximum torque of 128Nm.
For a car priced at just R99500, the Logan stands a good chance in the market.
Standard features that further entrench this attractive value proposition include power steering, air conditioning, remote central locking, front and rear power windows, and radio/CD MP3 player.
Safety features include a driver's airbag as well as ABS and EBD.
From a styling point of view, the Logan is not one of the most attractive sedans we know, but it is certainly practical.
