A woman who tried to kill her boyfriend and his lover by pouring acid over them is in hospital under police guard after she slipped in the mixture and sustained serious burns.

The incident, which happened in Lebowakgomo on Monday, led to the death of a man who responded to calls of help when he, too, slipped in the pool of acid and died later in hospital.

The two-timing boyfriend and his nyatsi suffered minor burns.

Police named the dead man as Makgomo Nkgweng, 45, of Lebowakgomo, outside Polokwane.

Spokesman Manong Tshehla said the 22-year-old woman, who is in the intensive care unit at a local hospital, will be charged with murder and attempted murder as soon as she was discharged from hospital.

Tshehla said the woman went to her boyfriend's room and found him bonking the other woman. She allegedly poured acid over the couple.

The injured boyfriend lay sobbing near the bed while the women fought.

Nkgweng rushed into the room after hearing screams from his bedroom. He slipped on the slippery floor and was severely burnt.
