A man was arrested for killing his girlfriend with a hammer at Orange Grove informal settlement, near East London, at the weekend.
Ndileka Njombolwana, 28, and her boyfriend were last seen in a shack on Saturday night.
Superintendent Mtati Tana said the woman's body was found on a bed in the shack about an hour later by the shack's owner.
Her naked body had been covered with a duvet and the shack had been ransacked.
The police found a hammer in the room.
Tana said: "There were bloodstains all over the place."
