Cooking up a storm, baking their way to business skills

Being taught how to be a better cook became a reality for 14 members of Clover Mama Afrika.

Being taught how to be a better cook became a reality for 14 members of Clover Mama Afrika.

They attended a week-long cook 'n bake training course run by Food Creations and Anchor Yeast in Johannesburg recently.

The cook 'n bake course is expected to enable participants to prepare, cook and bake meals that will nourish the hundreds of children and elderly people they feed daily at their care centres.

It is one of the many skills training courses implemented by the Clover Mama Afrika and Ukwakha Isizwe social responsibility project.

It covered everything from basic recipes to the presentation of food and desserts.

Each participant received a starter kit of a food mixer and other basic kitchen accessories. Some of the participants feel confident that they will be able to start their own catering services or coffee shops.

These ventures are expected to create jobs and generate funds for the care centres at which many abused, abandoned, orphaned and HIV-Aids children, as well as the elderly, are cared for.
