The lawyer for one of two former Uber drivers accused of robbing‚ kidnapping and raping passengers says there is no evidence linking his client to the crimes.

Vincent Makamu told the Randburg Magistrates Court‚ during his client’s bail application on Tuesday‚ that the only evidence the state is relying on is the fact he was an Uber driver.

At his previous court appearance‚ the 25-year-old man said he may have driven an Uber vehicle but knows nothing about the alleged attacks.

“We want to know what evidence the state has to link the accused to the crime‚” Makamu demanded.

“There are no specified dates and times of when these alleged offences were committed.

“All is known is that the accused was a driver of an Uber and only linked by a car he was driving.”

One of the complainants was allegedly robbed of about R5000 and raped in a veld after getting into the Uber taxi she had called to collect her from Montecasino in Fourways.
