The status of coalition negotiations was‚ as of Tuesday night”‚ still ongoing.

That’s according to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) James Selfe‚ who dismissed “Luthuli House’s desperate spin that the DA was horse-trading control of metros” following the local government elections.

Selfe‚ the party’s federal executive chairperson‚ described “African National Congress-inspired (ANC) rumours that coalition agreements have been reached at this stage” as “the last kicks of a dying horse‚ desperate to cling onto power using misinformation”.

He added: “The DA will continue with its negotiations in earnest with the clear objective of putting together governments that give effect to the majority of the electorates’ rejection of the ANC and its management of local government.”

Selfe reiterated that there “will be no ‘purging’ of staff – every person who works hard‚ in the best interests of the people‚ and is qualified to do the job‚ will be welcome”.
