MTN confirms ‘lapse in service’

Cellphone company MTN said on Monday afternoon that its customers were being affected by “intermittent connection issues”.

The downtime was affecting approximately one million voice‚ SMS and data customers throughout the country‚ according to the BusinessTech.co.za website.

Without providing any reasons‚ MTN South Africa said on its Twitter account: “We are currently experiencing intermittent connection issues affecting some customers. Our engineers are working on resolving this asap”.

 The MTN SA Service account stated: “Apologies for the lapse in service some of our towers are being upgraded our technical guys are working on restoring” (sic).

Customers of MTN said on social media they had been experiencing problems with their service since Sunday.
