Hard on the heels of their #FeesMustFall‚ students at the University of the Witwatersrand have a new campaign — #Access.

“We are trying to raise R10 million for students with outstanding debt. This fundraising campaign is to assist those belonging to the missing middle and are deemed as ‘too poor to be rich‚ too rich to be poor’‚” the Wits Students Representative Council (SRC) said on Monday.

The campaign will be staging a #DoubleUp lunch hour event — one of the fundraising mechanisms under the #Access campaign – at Library Lawns at the university’s Braamfontein Campus East on Tuesday‚ which will be attended by various artists and celebrities who have endorsed and donated to the campaign.

“We need all members of South African society to come on board and help us raise this money. We are calling on the private sector‚ corporate companies‚ organisations‚ the entertainment industry‚ the sporting world‚ prominent members of our communities and society at large to join us in raising at the very least the R10 million. Every contribution makes a difference and will go towards someone’s education‚” the SRC said.

“The struggle for free and quality education must continue‚ for that is the structural change our country so desperately needs‚” it added.
