A Pretoria woman and her colleagues claim to have witnessed a man shooting a woman in his car before driving off.

Rose Maluleke said they were having a meeting in a building on the corner of Visagie and Thabo Sehume streets on Wednesday morning when a man fired several shots at a woman who was sitting in the passenger seat of his car.

"We were in the building upstairs, so we heard the first shot. We ran to the window. We saw that guy shoot again. He shot three bullets," she said.

"The last bullet was in the head or neck and then he drove away. We then called the police to come and assist."

Maluleke said they spoke to officers from the Gauteng Flying Squad and also took down the registration number of the white Toyota Corolla. She said police were not able to find the car.

She got in touch with the publication after reading about a shooting in Polokwane on Wednesday afternoon in which a man had shot and killed a woman before turning the gun on himself.

He was 37 and she was 24. Police found the couple's bodies and the gun in the car.

"We thought it could have been the same man. We thought maybe he drove to Polokwane where he killed himself as well," she said.

Pretoria Central police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said they had not received a report of the incident and she could not comment on the matter.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said she could not respond to speculation.

"This is pure speculation that I cannot comment on now. As I said, [a] murder and inquest docket were opened. Further investigations will reveal more," she said.
