KZN MEC ‘horrified’ by continuing violence at Glebelands hostel

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has expressed grave concern about the continued incidents of violence at the Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi‚ Durban.

Mchunu was commenting in the wake of another murder of a hostel resident‚ Mlinyelwa Gobidolo‚ who was shot dead in full view of his family on Tuesday.

Gobidolo was apparently with his sister at Reunion Station when he was gunned down by a group of armed men.

Mchunu condemned the murder in the strongest possible terms‚ describing the situation at the hostel as totally unacceptable.

“We are gravely concerned and disappointed that despite numerous attempts made to end the violence at the hostel‚ the killing and maiming of people is continuing. However‚ government will not rest until the violence at

the hostel ceases and the hostel is peaceful.

“We are‚ however‚ confident that the police will bring the perpetrators of these dastardly deeds to justice and they will face the long arm of the law‚” said Mchunu.

He urged those concerned to “ stop resolving any differences through the barrel of the gun but rather through the negotiation table”.
