Cars impounded at Major League Gardens event

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed that about 49 vehicles were impounded at the Major League Gardens event on Saturday.

According to JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, the rumours that the vehicles were stolen are all false.

"All we can say is that the cars at a function at Innes Free were parked illegally and obstructing traffic and were therefore towed away.

He said that the impounded cars were not reported as stolen but were simply impounded for traffic violation and the owners will have to pay R2510 fine in return for their cars.

However, event organiser Banele Mbere, one of the Major League DJs,  said the official word they received from the police is that some of the cars were impounded as they were reported as stolen.

"The official word from the police is that they found stolen cars at the event and they impounded them."

He said that the rumours that have been flying on Twitter about cars being stolen at the event were all false.

"There were no cars stolen at the event."

The twin brothers, Banele and Bandile are popular hip hop DJs known for their popular song 'Slyza Tsotsi' who host bi-annual event named Major League Gardens.

This was their fourth successful event.
