House burnt down by mob in Lindhaven

A crowd from a squatter camp in Lindhaven, west of Johannesburg, have burned down the house of a man they believed had killed someone in the area, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

"A group of people went and attacked the house and burnt it down last night," Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said.

"The community members suspected the owner of the house killed the person who was found dead on Saturday."

The man and his family managed to escape.

He said a man, who lived in the squatter camp near Princess Crossing and Westgate, was shot dead on Friday. His body was found on Saturday.

Makhubela said a case of arson and a case of murder had been opened.

No arrests had yet been made.
