After a week in which they were pilloried following their shock defeat by Japan‚ the Springboks were redeemed last night (Saturday) with a 46-6 victory over Samoa in the World Cup‚ the Sunday Times reported.

However‚ it said there is a dark cloud over the win. Bok captain Jean de Villiers‚ who was very much part of the redemption‚ was sent for X-rays following a collision with Samoa fullback Tim Nanai-Williams in the second half.

There should be more clarity today (Sunday) on the injury‚ but last night it was feared that De Villiers had again broken his jaw‚ an injury that almost ruled him out of the tournament‚ the newspaper said.
