ANC councillor denied bail

An ANC councillor alleged to have led a group attack on Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Rustenburg has been denied bail‚ it was announced Friday.

Levoyo Tolo Maqwane and his supporters were alleged to have also attacked the vehicles of EFF members.

In a statement on Friday‚ the EFF said the ANC members had been trying to “declare Ward 22 of Rustenburg a no-go area for the EFF using intimidation and violence”.

In opposing the Maqwane’s bail application the state prosecutor argued that the ANC members’ behaviour bordered on political intolerance.

The court ruled that he would remain in custody until the resumption of the hearing on August 22.
