A mugshot of an American man named Jeremy Meeks went viral on social media this weekend making him an internet sensation, with more than 89,000 'likes' on Facebook as of Saturday evening.

The photo of Meeks went viral on Friday after being posted on Facebook following his arrest.

The 30-year-old’s high cheekbones, full lips and blue eyes drove women crazy as they overlooked the fact that the object of their affection had been described by the police as ‘one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area.’

According to the Dailymail, Meeks was arrested on five weapons charges and one gang charge.

His past brushes with the law include arrests for resisting arrest, faking his identity and grand theft.

Speaking to a news channel on Saturday, Meeks denied being involved in crime.

'I appreciate the attention but I just want them to know that this is really not me,' he told News 10 from behind glass. 'I'm not some kingpin.'

According to CBS 13 Meeks’ bail was set at $1 million on Friday. He is set to appear in court on June 27.
