Flamboyant businessman Kenny Kunene has signalled he would quit as secretary general of the Patriotic Alliance to focus on his businesses and writing his memoirs, The Saturday Citizen reported.

"If I continue as secretary general of PA, my businesses or the party will suffer," Kunene was quoted as saying.

He said his exit from the leadership of the five-month-old party, which he founded, was no indication of tension between himself and party leader Gayton McKenzie. Kunene would also remain an ordinary member of the PA.

Kunene was also writing a book, expected to be launched in September, chronicling his life from early childhood, through his activities as a businessman, politician and television presenter.

The book would include insight into Kunene's political career; on his leaving the African National Congress, his brief stint with the Economic Freedom Fighters and the founding of the PA.

"I am one of those people who are sometimes misunderstood and misinterpreted by others," Kunene said.

He said that the book would reveal details about himself that were not yet public knowledge.
