Police found boxes of testosterone and injection needles in the house of paralympian Oscar Pistorius after his girlfriend was shot dead, the Pretoria Magistrate's Court heard on Wednesday.

Investigating officer Hilton Botha said: "We found boxes of testosterone, needles and injections."

Botha testified that there was blood on one of the phones found in the house and blood spatters on a cricket bat.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel presented a plan of Pistorius's home to the court, as he continued opposing bail for the athlete, who is charged with murdering Reeva Steenkamp.

Botha testified that there was a 1.5 metre distance from the person who fired shots at Steenkamp to the door of the room she was in.

Pistorius cried again as Nel took Botha through the statement he had made, and which contained details of the black and white sleepwear Steenkamp had worn and the towels which had covered her body.

Pistorius has denied that he murdered Steenkamp in a shooting at his home in the Silver Wood country estate in Pretoria.

He said in an affidavit that he thought an intruder was in his home.

Botha confirmed to Nel that the top panel of the bathroom door was broken.

Parts of the door were found inside and outside the door.

"We think now the bat was used to gain entry," said Botha.

Forensic and ballistic test results still had to be completed.

However, Botha later said the shots appeared to have been fired downwards.

"It appeared to me that it was fired down," he said. "I measured it against myself."
