Witness tells court Mogapi threatened to kill Bates

The High Court sitting in Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court has heard how prostitute Lorraine Mogapi threatened to stab United States consulate worker Christopher Bates, The Star reported on Friday.

Security guard Oxford Mhlongo reportedly told the court Mogapi screamed: "I'll stab him, I'll stab him!"

She is accused of murdering Bates after a sex deal went wrong at his Illovo home in January.

On Wednesday, she told the court she had killed him in self defence.

According to Mogapi, who admitted to being a prostitute, the pair went to Bates' house and had sex.

An argument ensued when he allegedly refused to pay the agreed R200 and said she was not worth the price.

Bates was said to have fetched a knife from the kitchen and Mogapi pepper sprayed him. She reportedly grabbed the knife and Bates chased her with a baseball bat.

Mhlongo said that on the night of the murder, Mogapi stood over the body screaming she would stab him again.

He said he grabbed her and removed the knife. He also grabbed a baseball bat lying next to Bates's body.
