Tuning into best radio

VETERAN radio personalities Treasure Tshabalala, Zandile Nzalo and Tim Modise are among the 32 judges reviewing submissions by radio stations across South Africa for the 2013 MTN Radio Awards.

The awards acknowledge and honour the individuals and organisations that combine talent, hard work and skill to keep their listeners informed, entertained and learning a variety of things about their surroundings.

"The voting closes on March 15 and there will be an exciting prize for a listener with the most votes, who will win VIP tickets to the gala event and a smartphone, plus airtime," awards CEO Lance Rothschild said in Johannesburg this week.

"We have received a substantial amount of input from within the industry and the public."

Last year, 702 radio presenter John Robbie's breakfast show walked away with the award for best breakfast show in a commercial radio station.

For public broadcasting stations, the best breakfast show award was won by Ukhozi FM's Linda Sibiya.

The awards ceremony will be held at Sandton Convention Centre on April 13. - mashiloanec@timesmedia.co.za
