Initiation row 'is reason for bus stabbing'

One of the two involved in the argument had undergone an initiation ritual, which the other had not

A bus passenger was stabbed to death in the Northern Cape during an argument about initiation rites in the early hours of Monday.

The Bloemfontein-bound bus had stopped at a petrol station in Kimberley when the attack took place, Northern Cape police spokesman Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said.

The victim, 22-year-old Ramotse “TK” Taole, was stabbed in the neck.

One of the two involved in the argument had undergone an initiation ritual which the other had not, Tawana said.

A 34-year-old man fled after the stabbing, but was later arrested.

He was scheduled appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The bus had been travelling from Kathu, in the Northern Cape.
