'Morgan was the spice of life'

FRIENDS and relatives paid tribute as they said their last goodbyes to motoring journalist Morgan Naidu at the Sandton Bible Church in Douglasdale, Johannesburg yesterday.

Naidu, 38, had battled cancer for a some time and finally lost his battle with the disease on Saturday. His wife Mary said even in his final moments, "Morgs" as she referred to him, was still strong.

Hard as she tried, Mary could not help but be overcome by emotion.

"Thank you for loving me and seeing only the best in me. I hope that I live up to your expectations. Wherever we go, we'll always carry you in our hearts," she said.

Speakers told of how Naidu had the special ability to grab people's attention. Said one of the speakers: "Morgan was the spice of life and always the spirit of the occasion wherever he went".

His son Oliver paid tribute to his father, describing him as "strict, but a great dad".

His daughter Layla, perhaps too shy to speak in front of the congregation, had her mother Mary reading her tribute on her behalf.

Besides his job on television show Ignition, Naidu also offered readers expert motoring advice in Sunday World.

He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

He was cremated in a private ceremony.

The family requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Promise, a missionary trust Morgan supported. Details: FNB Sandton Account Number 620 940 26 799.
