IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi last night responded to what he has labelled the venomous and false statements of a bitter and deluded young man.

In his opening salvo, Buthelezi said: "I have today been made aware of the venomous and false statements made by Mr Chris Ntuli, a former member of the party, levelled against me through the media. Let me state categorically that Mr Ntuli is nothing but a bitter young man."

Buthelezi said when the IFP had to retrench members of staff following the 2011 local government elections, Ntuli was one of the casualties.

"When the party could no longer afford his salary, his loyalty waned and he became a bitter man," Buthelezi explained.

He added that Ntuli's claims that the IFP was controlled by a clique, that Buthelezi no longer wielded any power and that the party lacked democracy as being "simply the ramblings of a deluded young man".

Buthelezi said the party's national council had afforded Ntuli an opportunity to air his views.

Instead, Ntuli had aired his views on social networks.

He said Ntuli was expelled because he had contravened the party's constitution. "Not only did he admit to stealing some of my confidential documents, but above everything else, he called our Indian colleagues 'coolies'."
