2 held over perlemoen

TWO men have been arrested for illegally possessing perlemoen (abalone) worth more than R2-million, Western Cape police said

The first man, 34, was arrested in Mitchells Plain on Monday evening after a tip-off that perlemoen was dropped off at his house, said police. About 2522 perlemoen were confiscated.

The man would appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court today.

Another man, 35, was arrested on the R44 in Gordons Bay on Monday for possession of 210 perlemoen, worth about R250000.

Police said members of "Operation Octopus" spotted a suspicious-looking man driving a white Toyota Hilux.

They stopped the vehicle and found a box of perlemoen in the back. They arrested the man and confiscated hisvehicle.
