Hope for poor students

A GUGULETHU businessman has opened his heart and purse to promising students from poor backgrounds

Vuyani Nogaga, who runs NY1's Duma Caltex Service Station, says matriculants who need bursaries for their first year of study at tertiary institutions this year should apply for one of his bursaries.

Last year Nogaga gave out eight bursaries and, buoyed by the performance of candidates he has now vowed to double the number.

"Their zeal to succeed drove me to help more of them," Nogaga said.

Caltex first offered to pay for two bursaries but when more than 30 people applied Nogaga decided to support eight more students.

Forms are available at Duma Service Station in Gugulethu and Luyanda Service Station in Site C, Khayelitsha.

The deadline is January 21. Students can also SMS their names to 082-757-1491.
