Fireworks fines

Do not let off fireworks near animals, or let children light them

Johannesburg metro police have warned that fireworks in celebration of Guy Fawkes Day on Saturday should not be set off near animals.

“Anyone who ignites fireworks near to animals will be fined R1000,” spokesman Wayne Minnaar said.

“If parents allow minors to ignite fire works, they will be fined R1500.”

Minnaar said residents were allowed to set off small fireworks between 7pm and 10pm.

“Animal lovers are requested to take the necessary precautions to protect their animals during those times.”
