Radio jocks' windfall to help poor

A SELECT few radio personalities who have made an impact on society have been given R100 000 each by MTN to use for the benefit of any community project of their choice.

Those who have been lucky to be part of this innovative initiative are Tshidi Jokwana (Umhlobo Wenene FM), Jenny Crwys Williams (Talk Radio 2000), Penny Lebyane (Thobela FM), Carol Manana (Radio 2000), Tshepiso Makwetla (SAfm), Pabi Moloi (Highveld Stereo), Tholoana Moletsane (Lesedi FM), Abi Ray (East Coast Radio), Sureshnie (5FM) and Zandile Tembe (Ukhozi FM) .

Thobela FM and Motswako presenter Lebyane said she would spend the money on projects in both Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The money has been donated by MTN under the auspices of a new initiative, Y'ello Rose, aimed at fostering radio talent to compliment the existing MTN Awards.

"But next year it will rotate to reward talent in other parts of the communications sector," MTN spokesperson Bridget Bhengu said.
