Appeal for clean audits

A LACK of political will and determination to do work are among the reasons why most municipalities in Limpopo have received qualified audit opinions, Limpopo MEC for local government and housing, Soviet Lekganyane, says

Lekganyane was yesterday responding to Auditor-General, Terence Nombembe's report, which singled out Fetakgomo local municipality in Limpopo and six others countrywide for a sterling job.

The municipality was the only one in Limpopo that a received a clean audit report for the 2009-2010 financial year.

The province had nine municipalities that received unqualified audit opinions, 13 that received qualified reports, one clean audit report, four unqualified audit reports with findings, and three with adverse audit report (disclaimer) with findings.

Lekganyane said the good performance of a municipality depended on the commitment of the municipal mayor and the entire collective.
