Firm steps in to assist student

THE life of a Limpopo orphan who needed funds to further his studies is poised to change for the better thanks to the generosity of the business community

Yesterday Sowetan ran the touching story of Tshepho Monama, 20, who passed matric but could not pursue his studies due to a lack of finances. Monama had weathered the storms despite the difficult conditions under which he lived.

He was raised by his unemployed aunt, who also had her four children to take care of.

He was accepted for a course at the Capricorn FET college in Polokwane but needed R2500 for registration.

Yesterday KTKX Cabling Technologies, a company in Polokwane, donated R3500 towards Monama's studies.

Company chief executive Khanyisa Shirinda said she was touched by Monama's plight after reading his story.

"I was pained to read about Monama's situation and felt it my responsibility to come on board to assist him," Shirinda said.

"As Monama wanted R2500 for his registration fees, we felt it better to add another R1000 towards his books," she said. Monama, from GaRakgwatha village in Zebediela, will be studying human resources management.

An ecstatic Monama said he was grateful for the help and promised never to let the company down.

He is due to begin his studies on Monday next week.

According to Silas Ledwaba, Monama's neighbour, two other companies had also offered to assist.
