THE cabinet yesterday called on student bodies to discuss their concerns with education authorities and refrain from disrupting schools and exam sessions.

Briefing the media following cabinet's regular meeting on Wednesday, government spokesperson Themba Maseko said cabinet also urged all Grade 12 pupils to use the opportunity to write their preliminary exams.

Cabinet supported Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga's measures to stabilise the basic education sector in the aftermath of the teachers' strike.

"Cabinet calls on all parents, teachers, unions and community organisations to work together," Maseko said.

Motshekga was working with education MECs and others to ensure recovery programmes were put in place to support pupils, especially Grade 12s.

Special tuition and revision programmes, including weekend and holiday classes, had been put in place to ensure pupils were well prepared for the final exams, he said.
