THE case against two people convicted of sex trafficking was postponed in the Durban regional court yesterday.
Defence counsel Devin Moodley told the court that he had not prepared for proceedings because he knew that yesterday's date was a provisional date to arrange for a Thai-speaking interpreter. The interpreter was in court yesterday.
South African Basheer Sayed and his Thai wife, Somcharee Chuchumphorn, were convicted in April this year on 19 charges including money laundering, racketeering and contravention of the Sexual Offences Act.
The pair face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or a R100million fine. The case was postponed to September 14.
