Six to face arson charges

SIX people accused of burning down the house of the manager of Dr JS Moroka municipality are expected to appear in the Siyabuswa magistrate's court today.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Leonard Hlathi said the men were arrested last week.

He said the house was burnt down last month in what was believed to be the work of an arsonist.

"The manager, Monica Mathibela, was watching TV with her family at 9pm when the house went up in flames."

The house, valued at about R1,1million, is located in Marabastad, Siyabuswa.

"Our investigation revealed that a person was seen walking past the house and throwing a petrol bomb," Hlathi said.

He said the family escaped injury, and the suspects were to face charges of arson.
