Celebs in no show at Feather Awards nominations

Idols contestant Tshidi Tenyane is one of the Diva of the Year nominees

ALMOST all but four celebrities nominated for the annual Feather Awards snubbed the event's nomination party on Wednesday night.

The nominations party, which took place at The Venue Greepark in Sandton, Johannesburg, did not even attract well-known gay socialites, who usually attend the colourful event.

The awards pay a cheeky and frivolous tribute to public figures,

The only nominees who honoured the invitation were model and TV presenter Lunga Shabalala, actors Lucia Mthiyane and Minenhle Dlamini and Kgomotso Christopher.

Asked why so many of nominees snubbed his party, Thami Kotlolo, who is the organiser, said he did not know why people did not come.

"Some of them did not respond to the invitations. Others 'RSVPed' but did not come. I don't know why."

Guests were left jaw-dropped when Idols semi-finalist, Tshidi Tenyane's name was mentioned among the Diva of the year nominees. Many felt she did not deserve to be on the list.

Tenyane, who was one of the Idols expected to win this year, made headlines when she was booted out of the show because of her diva attitude.

The tongue-in-cheek awards, that were launched in 2009, feature outrageous categories that range from drama queens to diva extraordinaire.

People from different careers, who are in the public eye such as such as socialite Khanyi Mbau, Julius Malema, Zizi Kodwa have been featured.
