Matric bungle puts pupil's dream on hold

A 20-YEAR-OLD'S dream of studying sound engineering has been put on ice because the education department has not issued his matric results.

Last year Marvele Mashele, who was a Grade 12 pupil at Orhovhelani High School in Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga, and wrote his matric exams in 2010, watched as his schoolmates went to various tertiary institutions to pursue their careers.

This year his hopes were dashed again because he is still waiting for the Mpumalanga department of education to release his matric results,

Mashele said the reason the school gave him for the education department not giving him his results was that there had been an error in capturing his details because he shared the same name and surname with another pupil.

But the two pupils have different middle names and ID numbers.

The other pupil had received his results but there was an error in his matric results. An additional subject he had not studied was added to his matric results.

Mashele said he enquired early last year after not getting his results. Principal Joseph Mthethwa told him his results would come.

Mashele said he reported the matter to the department of education's district office in Bushbuckridge in January this year.

Mpumalanga education spokesman Jasper Zwane said the department is investigating Mashele's case.
