Trevor Noah to host 'The Daily Show'

Comedian Trevor Noah has been short-listed as one of the candidates to replace Jon Stewart on Comedy Central's satirical news program and according to the New York Times the job is already his.

"On Monday, Comedy Central will announce that Mr. Noah has been chosen as the new host of 'The Daily Show,' succeeding Mr. Stewart after he steps down later this year," the newspaper said.

“You don’t believe it for the first few hours,” Noah told the paper. “You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”

Noah is currently in Dubai, where he is on a leg of a comedy tour.

“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor,” Stewart said. “He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.”

Lists of the potential next host included Jason Jones, Samantha Bee, Tina Fey and Jessica Williams. Stewart announced in February that he'd be stepping down from the show after hosting for over 15 years

Stewart is expected to leave the show sometime between July and the end of the year, according to Variety.
