THE paradise flycatcher is a very distinctive bird, with a bright orange-brown body and blue-grey head.

The male bird has a long tail that trails behind him.

The birds build neat, cup-shaped nests from roots and other fibrous material, decorating them with lichen.

It is a noisy bird with a harsh, scolding call. It has short legs and sits very upright while perched prominently, like a shrike.

It is insectivorous, often hunting by flycatching.
