THE 12th annual Festival of Fame is set to begin with a big collaboration between National School of the Arts (NSA) students and jazz legend Hugh Masekela.

Masekela, accompanied by the students will perform his Songs of Migration at the Mandela Theatre in Johannesburg to kick-start the festival, which will run from February 25 to March 5.

It will showcase an array of music, theatre , art and dance productions from the students and from professional acts.

The theme of this year's festival is said to be Expressions of Heritage.

Award-winning singer Gloria Bosman will also be part of the Songs of Migration performance.

Bosman joined the NSA choir in a soulful serenade earlier this week.

"They are just so amazing and beautiful. The fire in their eyes reminds me of why I decided to become an artist," Bosman said.

She said FOF was an opportunity to instil a sense of seriousness in the minds of young budding artists.

Student representative council public relations officer Motheo Lengoasa, 17, said performing with Masekela would be like "the big bag of leaving the school".

Lengoasa said: "The festival is a time to show the public why we are the National School of Arts."
