Singer in ruckus at the movies

"Three drugged-up strongmen tried to take me on"

Well-known South African singer Kurt Darren had a run in with three men at East London’s Vincent Park Shopping Centre this week.

Confirming the incident, centre manager Joseph Parsley said Darren had got upset with three white guys who were being disruptive while watching a film at the centre's Ster Kinekor.

Parsley said the singer was busy watching a movie when the men entered the cinema.

“Mr Darren got fed up with all the noise the guys were making inside the cinema and he went to them and told them to keep it down,” Parsley said.

The men failed to keep quiet and Darren confronted them numerous times.

"He got fed up. He stepped outside the cinema and alerted a cinema personnel about the guys' rowdiness. The personnel intervened and Mr Darren continued watching his movie in peace," Parsley said.

After the movie was done, Darren walked out of the cinema and went to a book retailer nearby.

It is alleged the three men followed him and made threats against him.

“The three guys followed him behind in a threatening manner, but we deployed security officers to make sure that Mr Darren was safe,” said Parsley, adding that the three men later left the centre under the watchful eye of security.

Darren later tweeted: "Ok, seriously. I've just watched Expendables in East London and after the action movie, three drugged-up strongmen tried to take me on. They've been taken away" (translated from Afrikaans).

The multi-award-winning singer was travelling alone. He was in East London for a show at the Orient Theatre.

The incident was not reported to police.
