Dineo's Diary reveals jealous man

"He is the man in the house and wants things done a certain way"

DINEO Ranaka is tired of people disparaging her as “a raging cokehead” and has launched a 13-part reality show Dineo’s Diary, to set right misconceptions about her.

The former YFM presenter, who launched her Luv DR fashion label less than a year ago, and hopes to release her debut album in August, hosted a media launch at the Pyramid Day Spa in Johannesburg yesterday.

Ranaka, who has complained about being constantly misrepresented in South Africa’s tabloids, but was surprisingly candid, especially, about her boyfriend.

In various clips on the show, her boyfriend — only referred to as Les — comes across as impatient and jealous about the constant attention Ranaka attracts (this includes a few door-slamming moments too).

Ranaka said: “He is the man in the house and wants things done a certain way. With all the problems in the relationship, this [attention brought on by the TV show] is another thing to pray around.

“For any man to be shown in that light, with your woman shouting at you, it tampers with his ego, but we understand the bigger picture.”

Vuzu and Channel O head Solly Moeng — while mentioning some of the reality shows the stations have launched (including Cream Kartel, Running with the Reps and Forever Young) — skipped the troublesome Nonhle Thema and her show Nonhle Goes To Hollywood.

But Moeng was “excited”about their project with Ranaka. He said she was multi-faceted, fearless and a hard worker.

Ranaka said: “It’s been quite a long journey. I’ve a deep-rooted love for TV and I don’t think there is any format of TV that excites me as much as reality right now”.

The show appears to be about an ambitious mother, a media entrepreneur navigating her thyroid disorder and epilepsy and a loyal daughter, sibling and girlfriend.

But local audiences will not be privy to every detail in Ranaka’s life.

“There is certain nitty-gritty information that is sensitive to the family that the public won’t see, that we’ve edited out,” she said.

  • Dineo’s Diary premieres on DStv’s Vuzu channel on July 4 at 7.30pm.
