The talented singer, who was until early this year a happy housewife, is on her way to Hollywood, where she could realise a life-long dream of recording her own album and possibly becoming a superstar.

LYNN Brooks says her Cinderella experience, which has seen her making it to the Top 20 of the Online Avon Talent Search, is truly testimony to how God works in mysterious ways.

The talented singer, who was until early this year a happy housewife, is on her way to Hollywood, where she could realise a life-long dream of recording her own album and possibly becoming a superstar.

Cape Town-based Brooks says her road to stardom started early this year when she joined Avon as a sales agent.

"My manager was going through the brochure when on the last page I spotted the competition. When I showed interest she encouraged me to enter. Luckily my husband echoed there sentiments. He was so enthusiastic I got caught up in the excitement."

After a few nerve-racking weeks, to Brooks' surprise, she learnt she and six compatriots beat 6000 aspirants to the Top 150.

"On entering, we had to submit a homemade video to be placed online. I had not expected to go any further based on the international competition. I got the shock of my life when three of us in SA made it to the Top 100. We went to Paris to record two DVDs for online," she said.

"I am still getting used to the idea of going to Hollywood and making it to the Top 25. It's an amazing feeling, like a dream come true. God works in mysterious ways. Not so long ago I was at home with my great voice and the next thing I know I am on a plane to fabulous Paris. I am still taking it in and guess what, I am going to star-studded Hollywood. Not only will I live my dream but I am doing recordings of two other DVDs that are also going to be posted on the internet.

"We will also do shoots for Avon products. And by the grace of God, if I make it, then I am through to the Top 10. Here you get to be in a CD recording with 10 other dynamic female singers from around the world. What I am going to enjoy the most is the recording of the Avon anthem."

Lynnn's song and DVD have been on Avon's website since July 22 and will be there until August 26. People can log on to wwww.avonvoices.com and start voting for our golden girl.

"I am taking it one step at a time. The ladies who have gone through to the semifinals have brilliant voices. And luckily the songs we choose from are popular, so we just have to make sure they suit our range. I am grateful to my husband for believing in me and doing publicity for me so that people can become aware of the competition and vote for me," Brooks said.

The judges are Diane Warren, a songwriter who has penned songs for the likes of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, Fergie from Black Eyed Peas, singer Natasha Bedingfieks, as well as musical director David Pack.

The final will see two winners. One will be voted for by the public and the other by Avon reps. Besides product hampers that they receive each time they enter another stage, the winner will get a recording contract.
