Spiritual journey

"We celebrate all that God has done for us and people will experience this when listening to the lyrics" - Joyous Celebration

AFTER wowing fans in Eastern Cape with their freshly brewed tunes, South Africa's undisputed gospel crusaders Joyous Celebration are now headed for Western Cape.

The award-winning gospel ensemble have embarked on a national tour to showcase their latest album, Joyous Celebration 15 My Gift to You, which was released in April and reported to have gone gold within two days of hitting the shelves.

The DVD, which was released a week later, is currently on platinum status, said the group's publicist.

These are all indications of how warmly the album and DVD have been received.

If you attended their performances in Eastern Cape, you will agree that they were both emotional and energetic.

Gospel lovers planning to attend the show on July 2 at the Grand West in Cape Town should brace themselves for a spiritual journey that might take them to heaven and back.

For almost four hours of this spiritual Odyssey, fans are likely to stamp their feet and sway from side to side harmoniously with other people in a packed hall.

This was what happened in Eastern Cape when the ensemble took to the stage, and it will not be any different in Cape Town, but it could be better.

"The audience can expect to hear songs from the Joyous Celebration 15My Gift To You album as well as their traditional favourites laced with different languages and rhythms," the group's founder member Jabu Hlongwane said.

"We have a lot to be grateful for as we celebrate our 15-year milestone. It is for this reason that we are releasing Joyous Celebration in two stages, with part two coming out in July.

"We celebrate all that God has done for us and people will experience this when listening to the lyrics," Hlongwane said.
