Satma's fifth awards

THOKOZANI Langa, Malini and Ravishka and Prishoni Chetty dominate nominations for the fifth South African Traditional Music Awards.

Langa, the award-winning maskandi exponent, won the Best Maskandi Album and Best Video Award nomination. Malini, one of the hippiest Afro-pop group was nominated for Best Afro-soul and Best Song of the Year.

The Chettys were nominated for best Indian Album and Best Upcoming Artist

In the mbaqanga category, Thokozani Hadebe, Izinkunzi and Umashwabana will compete with each other. Female maskandi group Izingane Zoma will compete with male groups for the Best Maskandi Album.

The late urban maskandi singer Busi Mhlongo has been nominated for Best Afro-Soul.

The awards will take place on September 25 at the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.

Lifestyle and behaviour workshops will be held for nominees .

Dr Thuthukile Goba, Satma's project director, said: "We are doing something different this year because we have realised that many musicians are affected by the fame that comes with success. We want artists to act professionally and to empower them to withstand societal pressures."
