Search for young, untapped talent in Soweto

WITH music projects such as Ziveze, aspiring young musicians around Soweto are guaranteed a platform to show their talent.

Organised by the Soweto Rhythm Productions (SRP), the Ziveze Music Project is searching for young and untapped talent in Soweto.

Known for innovative and integrated community development projects around Soweto, the auditions will be held tomorrow and Thursday at the Shosholoza Restaurant, Meadowlands Zone 7, Soweto.

SRP spokesperson Michael Xaba says their aim is to stimulate and develop talent in and around Soweto.

"We want to provide the youth with various activities that will motivate and inspire them towards a brighter future. We are looking at upcoming young stars who have a passion for music and dance."

Xaba says they are searching for 30 people who will be part of the music project.

"We are looking for musicians and dancers," Xaba says. "The people selected will be given an opportunity to participate in music workshops facilitated by the Zakheni Music Trust. The workshops will teach them things such as how to register music, musician's rights and what the music industry entails in general."

He says: "Some of them will be included in a collaboration album that will be released soon. We will try to get others to collaborate with established musicians."

The SRP organisation mainly focuses on children between the ages of 10 and 16 as well as the youth at large.

Established in 2005 the organisation caters for the artistic and developmental needs of up-and-coming musicians.

SRP is a non-governmental organisation that raises funds to develop the community.

Judges for the show will be kwaito kid Junior Mafia and General, the former Chiskop member. The project is made possible by the National Arts Council and Arts and Culture.
