Just 45 minutes have been scheduled for lunch‚ and 10 less for supper.

But the chairperson of the ad hoc parliamentary committee established to nominate a person for the appointment of Public Protector is adamant that all 14 shortlisted candidates vying for the position will be interviewed in one day — Thursday.

“The rationale behind this is to ensure that candidates do not have unfair advantage over others‚ as these interviews will be broadcast live‚” Dr Makhosi Khoza said.

Incumbent Thuli Madonsela’s non-renewable seven-year tenure comes to an end in October.

Candidates will begin arriving at a committee room in the Parliament’s Old Assembly Building at 7am “for registration and related processes”‚ the first interview is planned for 7.45am‚ and the last of the day is set to start at 11pm.
