Tinkler focuses on mentality

SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler has underlined the importance of working on the mental state of his players.

Matsatsantsa returned from the break late last month and held a camp in Polokwane where the focus was mainly on team building.

"If you look at a professional boxer, he goes into a professional fight and a lot of them take a good eight to nine weeks to get themselves to where they need to be psychologically. These guys [footballers] have to do it every two to three days," Tinkler said.

SuperSport have a tricky opening encounter when they travel to Durban to meet Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 quarterfinals at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (8.15pm).

"The factor that comes into play is that this is a competitive match against a big team.

"So there is a lot of the nervousness and anxiety. It can lead to quicker fatigue, so those are the things that we will find out come Saturday."
