Kaizer Chiefs and Siyanda Xulu have finally gone their separate ways after reaching a settlement.

Xulu, 25, joined Amakhosi two seasons ago and a lot was expected from the defender who had been in Russia for three years playing for Rostov.

Sowetan understands the matter has been finalised and Xulu is free to move on.

"He still had three years remaining with Chiefs and they were failing to reach an agreement, while the player was training on his own. But they finally agreed to part ways and the club will release a statement soon confirming this," a source close to the agreement said.

Xulu's agent Paul Mitchell, of Siyavuma Sports Agency, refused to comment on the settlement and referred us to the club. "I'm afraid you have to wait for a press release from Chiefs. That's the best I can do for you," Mitchell said.

The club's spokesman, Vina Maphosa, couldn't be reached for comment and Xulu's father, Christopher, was also not forthcoming with the details. "I cannot comment for now and once the decision is out, we will talk." .

The matter dragged on because Xulu, who was also not available for comment, was apparently unhappy Chiefs wanted to offer him two months salary as a settlement.

He believed he deserved more out of the remaining years of his contract.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns centre back played just 10 matches during his two years with Chiefs. He was even placed on the transfer list a year ago after a poor first season (nine matches), but was later retained for the past campaign which was worse. He played just one match.

Cape Town City and Indian Premier League side Atletico de Kolkata are believed to be interested in his services.
