Why did Adidas snub serial PSL title winner Daine Klate?

Adidas South Africa have controversially snubbed a player they sponsor‚ Daine Klate‚ neglecting to post any congratulatory note on their Twitter page for the Bidvest Wits winger’s remarkable achievement of going to six Premier League titles.

Adidas SA took a beating on social media for their oversight for the soccer player‚ questioned as to why they have been quick to congratulate cricket and rugby players in their sponsorship stable.

Klate‚ sponsored by Adidas for a number of years‚ won his sixth PSL title last week Wednesday when Wits wrapped up the championship with a 2-0 win against Polokwane City at Bidvest Stadium.

The winger played a crucial role this season earning Wits their first league title in their 96-year history.

In what seemed a glaring oversight‚ Adidas congratulated Warren Whiteley‚ who they also sponsor‚ on becoming Springbok captain‚ but neglected to extend a similar courtesy to Klate.

Adidas posted on Tuesday: “Born to lead – congratulations to the new South African national rugby captain‚ @WarrenWhiteley!”

However‚ their silence for Klate‚ now clearly the most decorated player in PSL history with six league and eight cup medals‚ was deafening.

Earlier this month Adidas SA also had a string of Tweets congratulating their sponsored cricket players‚ Qinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada‚ after Cricket SA’s awards.

These included: “The best of the best as voted for by his peers – well done‚ @QuinnyDeKock69‚ SA’s Players’ Player of the Year.”

And: “What a ball... well done @KagisoRabada25 on winning the Ram Delivery of the Year for 2016/17!”

And also: “Congratulations @QuinnyDeKock69 on being voted as South Africa’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2016/17”

And: “Congratulations‚ @QuinnyDeKock69‚ officially the best ODI Cricketer in the land!”

Klate has won league titles at SuperSport United (2007-08‚ 2008-09 and 2009-10)‚ Orlando Pirates (2010-11 and 2011-12) and now Wits in 2016-17.

Klate could not be reached for comment.

Repeated attempts to obtain comment for the public relations department of Adidas SA were unsuccessful.
