Pitso deplores showboating

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained why he was desperate to stop his players from show-boating in their 6-0 win over Pirates at the weekend.

With the Buccaneers on the ropes, Sundowns forward Percy Tau, who scored a brace, wanted to start the showboating and Mosimane was quick to stop him.

Jingles believes that the crowd incident that led to Pirates fans storming the pitch could have been worse had the Sundowns players continued their show-boating.

"I'm always against it, I don't like it. We need to respect Orlando Pirates and one more thing we don't take serious, we saw what happened (crowd violence). Maybe until someone dies you would understand," Mosimane reacted.

"Imagine if we were show-boating, it could have been worse because you are playing with emotions of people and this bragging rights is not right, that's why I was angry when Percy was doing it. I can score six and still stop it."

Mosimane has spoken many times of his desire to see Sundowns supporters fill the stadium, but felt the incident on Saturday has taken the club backwards.

"These things should not be condoned. I usually bring my son to football and I think lately he has watched two games [at the stadium]. He did not come [on Saturday] and I'm happy he did not come, but I know he was watching on TV, because in the dressing room my phone rang and he was asking if I'm okay.

"You know how long I've been saying that I wish the supporters of Sundowns can come to the stadium and we are trying our best to give them the kind of a game of football that is good. And we are still not managing to do that, so when you find things like this then you say, 'Oh, we start from zero again'. It is not nice," he said.

Mosimane, though, was pleased that his boys managed to score six goals. "Let me tell you, we could have scored more. This is not a good game that we played."

The Brazilians are now six points behind the log leaders Cape Town City, but the Tshwane side have six matches in hand. Sundowns will play their next match away, which is against Chippa United tomorrow in East London.
